Budget-Friendly NYC Activities

by administrator April 11, 2019 No Comments

New York is a great place to visit on a bus trip any time of the year, but there is no denying that the city can hurt your wallet sometimes. You may find yourself quickly getting beyond your budget after doing a few activities, but there is a solution: there is still plenty of stuff to do in the city for absolutely FREE. We’ve compiled some of the cool activities you can do without breaking the bank.

The Hamilton Grange

He was just like his country, he was young, scrappy, and hungry, and he was America’s least appreciated founding father, but Alexander Hamilton has had a resurgence in the public eye due to Lin Manuel Miranda’s hit Broadway musical, Hamilton. If you’re a fan of the play or just a fan of our country’s history, then you will want to make this one of your stops. It was the only house Hamilton ever owned and sheds lots of light on the life of America’s immigrant son.

Fridays at the Museum of Modern Art

Everyone wants to make sure they see some of the amazing pieces in Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art. Featuring amazing works like Cubism and assorted works from Claude Monet, it’s the place to be for any art lover. But the MoMA costs $25 to get into at any given time. That’s not exactly a budget-friendly activity. However, when Friday evenings come around, you can get in for absolutely free. From 4 – 8 pm, the MoMA is your playground. Make sure you get around this fee and get yourself cultured.

Staten Island Ferry

The Hudson is an amazing river when the weather is warm, and there’s no better way to enjoy the river than the free Staten Island Ferry. It’s also the most convenient way to navigate New York for the non-driver. Staten Island is pretty full of awesome stuff to do like visit the Staten Island Zoo, see the minor league Staten Island Yankees play ball, or walk through the Historic Richmond Town, so make sure you hop on the ferry.

Governor’s Island

The ferry to the island is just $2, but all the activities on this isolated island are free. There’s a bike path, mini golf, and a ghost town that welcomes anyone that is a fan of the macabre. If you and your significant other are looking for a place to spend the day and also enjoy a bit of isolation, this might be just the perfect place for you.
